The Tell Tale Heart...

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?  Jeremiah 17:9

Happy Thursday!

This is one of those entries that I've been looking forward to doing all week.  This topic is near and dear to my heart, mainly because it is about the heart.  I know I am a romance novelist and I love writing stories about affairs of the heart.  But this is a little bit different angle.  This deals with the soul or character of a person...who they are when no one is watching...the who they are that sometimes get covered with a mask when they are trying to appease others or just to blend in with what they think is the expected behavior.

People have a tendency to say, "I need to watch my mouth...please pardon my French..." whatever the appropriate apologetic phrasing is nowadays.  However, unless they start the cleaning or purging process at the heart, they will never get to the root of the real problem.  They will continue to have slippages, moments when they say inappropriate words because the words come from their heart.  Purify the heart, then the inappropriate words will be less likely to spill out.

And I am not just speaking on the use of bad language and how it is likely reflecting the state of our heart, I am also speaking on being evil, spiteful, just not a pleasant person to be around.  A person can be the best dresser, have their hair done perfectly, but the minute they open their mouths to speak...everything goes down hill.

I am not naming names, but I worked with a person who was the best dresser, wore expensive looking suits and their hair was impeccable.  However, the minute they started speaking, their entire persona might as well have been a trash heap.  It was horrible.  I will never forget what I felt that day when I heard this person speak.  Believe me, this happened a number of years ago, but sometimes it seems like it was yesterday.

Others can be fooled by this 'hide and seek' game we play by wearing our selected hats to hide our true selves. God knows the real us...who we are deep down.

'...for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7b

We hear a lot about people having wardrobe make-overs and home make- overs...maybe it's time for a heart make-overs.  This make-over won't cost any money, but some long over due time in God's Word.  And it will please our Father to no end!

How about it...anybody ready for their next big closeup?

Have a blessed Thursday!
